CHANGES TO COMMUNITY POINTS from 10/2/11

As you know, we’re always striving to improve Swom and
make it the premier place for marketers to network.

So we’re making some changes to encourage higher quality
interaction between members and reduce spam.

From 10th Feb, 2011 (after commissions calculations):

- community points will no longer be given for simply
posting and commenting irrelevant content.

- Instead, a new ‘Like’ feature will been added.

- You may ‘Like’ up to 10 activities per day on your
newsfeed. The author of the content will receive community
points for each of your ‘Likes’.

- Get more ‘likes’ by posting quality content and engaging
in quality interaction with other members.

We hope that this change will encourage members to focus
on quality content and interaction, rather than posting large
amounts of irrelevant content to collect points as some
members have been doing in the past.

We anticipate that this will result in less community points
being given out, but that each community point will be
worth a lot more.

As this is a new feature, we’ll be keeping a close eye on it
and looking out for member feedback.

With all these great changes, it’s never been a better time
to upgrade to Gold membership. We’ll be calculating
commissions in just 2 days – you can grab your share and
benefit from these new changes if you upgrade BEFORE

With that being said I think this new policy may very well harm swom and it’s members to such a great extent that many gold members may drop out completely.  Time will only tell as it depends on how this new swom policy will affect us all!  One of the great things about swom is the fact that you CAN earn your membership fee back plus some even with no referrals.  To this author it seems this new swom point policy is very much swayed to the favor of swom itself and not the members!  We will see.  What will you do with your 10 “Likes” limit a day?  “Like” your friends comments or actual meaningful comments?

Connect with the new people as soon as they join. To find the new people in Swom, log out of your Swom account, go to the main Swom page and on the left side you will see pictures of the newest members.  Right click on the first picture, open link in a new tab. Log back into your Swom account and refresh that new members tab and add them as a connection. In the adress bar you will see their member number, decrease it by 1 and add that member. Keep adding….. Do this EVERY DAY!  1 new connection=1 point

To get Gold evangelist shares welcome your new Swom contacts and make sure you put the word Gold in your comment. Also make sure you do not post the same comment over and over again. The Swom system will not give you points for reposting the same comment. Be creative with the word Gold. I will post one of my own comments just to give you an example:

Over time by posting the word Gold, on your new Swom contacts page, you will get Gold evangelist shares.

For questions and answers, a maximum of 20 votes can be cast per user per day.

Maximum points you can get is 200/day PLUS Community chest (between 5 – 100)  which are random.

Be sure not to post your URL-s as this will cause you to lose 5 points/post.

Now, there are some so-called gurus who think that a billion pop ups are going to make me buy something from you.  Let me make it very clear.  I will never, never, never, ever, never buy anything from your pop up he** site!!  One of the most recent culprits of this has to do with free traffic.  I am not even going to mention his domain as I am sure many of you have unfortunately come across it.

I understand that pop ups, pop unders whatever may have some usefulness.  But just like anything in life there always seems to be someone who likes to abuse it.  One ok.  Two, you are wasting my time.  Any more than that all you are doing is irritating me.

Now, I have used this technique for quite some time to do varying things.  One of which is to block annoying pop up sites, annoying ad sites etc.  It takes about 5 minutes even less probably.

What we are going to do is modify your hosts file if you are running a windows based operating system.

1.) First let’s find out what Windows operating sytem you are running.  Because this will dictate where to locate your hosts file.
Click on Start, My Computer and on the left hand side you will see “View System Information”.  Click on that.  It will bring up your System Properties window.  Under System: you should see your operating system.  Mine Says “Microsoft Windows XP”, because that is what version my Microsoft Windows Operating System is.  There may be some minor differences as to where you can find what operating system you are running.  If the above does not work for you, just Google it!!

2.) Now that you know what operating system you are running let’s find the hosts file!!

For Windows 9x and ME click on Start, My Computer, (c:), Windows, Hosts.
For NT, Win2K and XP click on Start, My Computer, (c:), Windows, System32, Drivers, Etc, Hosts OR Start, My Computer, (c:), Winnt, System32, Drivers, Etc, Hosts

For Windows 7 and Vista click on Start, My Computer, (c:), Window, System32, Drivers, Etc OR
Start, My Computer, (c:),”%systemroot%, System32, Drivers, Etc
Just use Notepad and “Run as Administrator” if you have to to open the hosts file.

Just ad 127.0.0.1 after the others and the offendingdomainname.com, Save and that is ALL!!  Goodbye Mr. Annoying Pop Up Domain!!  You can also use this method to block annoying ad severs  and redirect to different websites too!!  We have included a video from YouTube to show you how easy this is to do!  I actually have the hosts file bookmarked on my desktop so I can Change it at will.  Granted this may be a somewhat extreme method to block Pop Up abusing websites, nonetheless it works! Enjoy and have fun blocking their pop ups!!

How To Block Annoying Pop Up Abusers

I am sure you already know what backlinks are. But for those of you that don`t here is an explanation: backlinks are incoming links to your website. The number of backlinks pointing to your website is very important as it is connected to your page rank. They can determine the importance and popularity of your website. Synonyms for backlinks are incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

So how do you obtain backlinks to your site?

1.Reciprocal linking

Search for  sites that have similar content to yours and ask for a reciprocal link. You link to them and they link to you.

2. Forum signatures

Sign up for forums related to your content (if you own a golf site, sign up for a forum where golfers hang out). Every time you post on the forum, use your signature that is a direct link to your website. DO NOT SPAM members. Just participate in conversations with your signature link at the bottom. This is also very targeted traffic to your site.

3. Blog comments

Same as Forums. But as I said before, be sure not to spam. Your comments should always be relevant to the post.

4. Link exchange directories

Submit your website to reciprocal link exchange directories, in order to achieve higher rankings in search engines.

I receive lots of comments to my blog from pople who are here only to spam. Lately I started to edit their comments and remove their signatures as they lead to sites totally unrelated to Swomnet. I will continue with this practice in the future. The only signature links I will keep are those relevant to my site. One of the reasons for doing  that is a changed Google policy regarding spam. If your site has a lot of outgoing links not related to your page content, Google will drop your page rank as they assume your website to be a link farm/content farm.

Also, for all of you having mini-sites (sites with only 5-6 pages, built only to make affiliate sales or AdSense profit), Google is drastically dropping their rank lately. The reason for doing this is to improve search results.

As it appears, lots of people have complained to Google about mini sites that have a #1 rank in Google, but very poor quality content, so Google has decided to put a stop to that.

With that in mind, I suggest you concentrate on the quality of your site. It will take time but it will pay off.  The Rome wasn`t built in one day, but it is still there, attracting more and more people every day…..Keep that in mind.

Each day more and more people lose their jobs and the bills start to pile up. A house mortgage hangs over their heads, they start panicking and pretty soon they are desperate. Are you one of those people? And what can you do if you are desperate for money? First of all CALM DOWN and COOL YOUR HEAD. Take a long walk and relax. Things are never as desperate as they seem at first. There is always something we can do, but sometimes we don`t see the tree from the woods. After you have calmed down, think about the options you have. I will give you a couple of ideas for making money offline and online and you can start from there.

1. Organize a yard sale.

Go through your house and closets and weed everything out you don’t absolutely need. Most people have far too many things they never use and will never use again. Organize and price them in preparation for a large yard sale. Display your items as attractively as possible. Advertise everywhere you can with large, easy to see flyers. If you can afford it, post an ad in your local newspaper. A one day yard sale can often produce a significant amount of money. Also post the ad at Craigslist.com.

2. Sell anything you don’t need through e-bay.

Sell anything you don’t need through e-bay local online classified ads, craigslist etc. You could also have a garage sale if that’s possible and appropriate in your area.

3. Run a weekend sale for others.

There are loads of people who would love to have a yard sale, but don’t have time to tag all the items and set it up. Offer to do the work for them for a percentage of the sales, say 25% or so. You would organize the items, display them, and be there throughout the sale to collect money. This is another quick cash generator and it has long term potential.

4. Take back any recent large purchases you can.

Did you overspend on luxury items recently? Now’s, the time to return items to the store for which you still have the receipt. If you’re in a desperate situation, you’re not going to be able to make use of those luxury items anyway.

5. Deliver new vehicles to dealerships.

It’s not well known, but large specialty vehicles such as vans, limousines, and RV’s aren’t delivered to dealerships on a truck. They’re driven to dealerships by part time entrepreneurs like you. You’re paid by the mile and then given money for air transportation back home. Plus, there’s
no need for a commercial driver’s license, although some states require a chauffeur’s license which is obtained by passing a written test. This can be a relaxing way to generate cash relatively quickly.

6. Mow some lawns.

Yes, I know it’s low tech, but there’s a real demand for lawn care these days as people have little time to do it themselves. Find an attractive neighborhood and market your services door to door. You can get paid for this service the same day. Make flyers and put them everywhere you can. Remember, you can`t be a chooser in this situation. You need to do whatever it takes.

7. Wash some windows.

Find a janitor supply store in your area. Buy some squeegees, a brush and rags, a pail with rollers attached, and some ammonia and vinegar. Drive to your nearest outdoor mall and ask the first store if you can wash their windows. Offer to do so at a low price in order to establish some credibility. After completing the first store’s windows, move on to other stores. Mention that you washed windows in the first store and the owners were very pleased. This could turn into a business with employees, but, until then, it’s a good fast cash generator.

8. Play an instrument.

Do you play an instrument or sing? Visit some local restaurants and bars and see if you can entertain their customers for a few evenings. If they resist, offer to do it for a free meal the first night. You should be able to make some money via tips despite not getting paid. Who knows? This may lead to a long term gig.

9. Sell something inexpensive door-to-door to businesses.

Consider selling inexpensive items that businesses use everyday and frequently run out of such as pens, pencils, erasers etc. You should be able to get these items cheaply and sell them at an inexpensive price. Businesses will likely purchase some from you because the items are not costly and they want to be accommodating.

10. Be a guinea pig.

Yes, I know this is desperate. But then again, so are you, right? You can get paid to participate in medical studies testing out new drugs and treatments. Some of these studies pay fairly well, but may require frequent visits to a clinic or even an overnight hospitalization. One disadvantage is you may not get paid until the study is completed. If you’re desperate for money, make sure you sign up for a short study. Do an internet search for “paid medical studies”.

11. Donate plasma.

If you’re free of infectious diseases and are healthy, you can get paid to donate your plasma. This is a relatively quick and relaxing procedure, but does require a needle stick. You’ll relax in a comfortable chair and watch television or listen to music as your plasma is prepared and collected. You’ll receive immediate payment which varies by location.

12. Craigslist / Recycler .

Go to a website like Craigslist / Recycler and buy and sell stuff. You can make an extra $1,500 a month on a very part-time basis by finding good deals and then reselling them on the same websites!
Not the most efficient thing to do, for sure, but it just illustrates a point that people give away things of value all the time that can be resold either at a garage sale/flea market if you’re in an active town or online marketplaces like craigslist.

13. This is a twisted idea but IT WORKS and it cost ZERO to start.

1. Go to the popular FREE online Craigslist.org (publication)
2. Go to the category: For Sale – go to FREE (stuff)
3. People are giving away their stuff for free!
4. You simply go by and pick it up.
5. Bring it home – take pictures of it.
6. Create a classified ad in the correct category of Craigslist.org (it’s free!) –

and upload your pic of the item you’re selling.

7. Make sure to list your phone number – so the reader can quickly call

8. This is 1,000% profit – anyone can do it – no skills required. Rinse and repeat.

14. Special skills.

Do you have any special skills you can offer? Skills like article writing, designing, translating? Think hard about your skills. What are you good at? Depending on your skills offer them to the others. If you are good at writing, you can offer your skills at warrior forum. There is a special section on Warrior forum: Warriors for Hire. Go through it and offer to work. The other site you can go to is Fiverr.com. It is the place for people to share things they’re willing to do for $5. I know $5 doesn`t sound like too much, but if you are good at something, it will not be long before you hit $50/day….and that is $1500/month.

15. Make money online

This one is tricky if you need money RIGHT NOW. Because, no matter what you think it is not going to happen  RIGHT NOW.  It takes time and dedication (the only way you  can actually make it right now is if you offer services like I mentioned in  #14). Other than that, it takes at least a month to make money online.  AT LEAST.  So,  I will just post a list of various ways of making money online, and you can search the rest by yourself.

HOW TO MAKE MONEY ONLINE

1.     Become an affiliate for others

2.     Build your own website and earn money from Google AdSense

3.     Buy domain names cheap and sell them for a good price

4.     Build a good website and sell it on Flippa.com

5.     Build a membership website

6.     Write an e-book and sell it

7.     Be the middle man; for example: offer backlinking  service for a certain price. Find the same service cheaper (on fiverr.com) and take in the profit. (same goes for writing articles etc.)

Of course, all of the above (making money online) sound much easier than they actually are. If you don`t have any experience in online marketing, I suggest you make offline income first and start building online business when you don`t have to think about a roof over your head. Be creative. This could be a new start for you….if you don`t lose yourself in desperation.

As an internet marketer you probably do a heavy amount of copying and pasting. I know I sure do! I have tried a few varying techniques like having 3 notepads open and having the text highlighted and ready to go when I want to copy and paste something. Needless to say this is a VERY tedious task especially if you are marketing more than one product or service! So, with that said I have got to mention this nifty little tool I stumbled across. It is a dream for internet marketers and/or anyone who does a heavy amount of copying and pasting.

It is called XtraPaster. It is a FREE software program made by the AureoSoft Software Development Company. It has 36 slots where you can store text and it is organized with four different colors.

XtraPaster is extremely fast and easy to use. It has an interface that takes up very little screen space and can be used directly from the notification area of the taskbar (system tray or traybar).

Another handy feature of it is that it always stays on the top window which I find to be very, very useful!!

If you do a lot of copying and pasting I highly recommend you check this out! It has saved me oodles of time as I am sure it will save you time as well!

If you are serious about making money online in any way, shape or form (affiliate marketing, AdSense…) this is a list of 5 things you absolutely must have:

1. Domain name – you need to brand yourself and not others. If you are sending / paying for traffic to affiliate offers, why wouldn`t  you send it to your own domain?  GoDaddy is the one we use for all of our domain names, and they take Paypal but if you need one that takes Alert Pay, we recommend to go to XtraOrbit.

2. Hosting – you will need someone to host your site. We use KVC Hosting and TMZ Hosting .

3. Website – we use FREE blogs as our website. WordPress or Blogger are the best in our opinion because they get picked up by search engines very fast as long as you put quality content. If you know how to build a website yourself, just go for it. Or you can find somebody to do it for you at Freelancer.com.

4. Autoresponder - you need to build a list.  Best autoresponders out there:  GetResponse and AWeber.

5. Link (Url) Tracker – in order to be effective internet marketer you have to know where your hits and sales come from. It does little to no good to advertise on sites which produce no results.  We use bi.tly and one of our trackers at swomnet.

I am sure that you have noticed on some Swom Members profiles there are different types of font sizes and colors. Well let’s explain some of the different font changes you can achieve in your Swom profile.

In order to change the font sizes in your Swom Profile you need to add the “Special Characters” to the text that you want to change.

A space between the “Special Characters” (asterisk, minus sign) and your text does not seem to be necessary. Most “Special Characters” need to be placed on both sides or surrounding your text.

Other “Special Characters” like the # sign only like to be placed in the beginning of the text and will not work properly if placed after the text.

Please note that the line underneath the red text modifications are actually three minus signs!!

Currently I am aware of two programs that allow you to add contacts in Swom automatically.

The first one is called Swom Bot.  I have tested this new Swom friend adder and quite honestly it works very, very good!  It is very easy to use and implement.  If you have no computer skills whatsoever, you need not be afraid of Swom Bot.  You can download it for free and get 500 credits free at http://www.swombot.com

It is a free download and after registering you will receive 500 credits so that you can add 500 new Swom members to your contact list.  You can purchase additional credits  in the amounts of 5,000 (5 £ or approximately $7.58 US Dollars), 10,000 (8 £ or approximately $12.13 US Dollars), 20,000 (15 £ or approximately $22.75 US Dollars), 50,000 (30 £ or approximately $45.49 US Dollars) and 100,000 (50 £ or approximately $75.82 US Dollars).

I was also going to do a review of a second one called webDOMinator.  Supposedly it has numerous plugins that you can download that will work with virtually any social network that you may be a member of.  But when I tried to download it my anti-virus software said it contained malware.  It may just be a glitch or an overzealous anti-virus program, nonetheless  I am not going to risk my computer with malware if I have already found what I want and it works quite well!  If you would like to check out webDOMinator feel free at http://webdombot.com but don’t say I didn’t warn you when your computer comes back working like a paper holder!

webDOMinator has a monthly subscription charge starting at $19.99 for a month, $54.99 for three months, $99.99 for six months and a one year license for $189.99.  The plans provide you with (1)  license to use the webDOMinator software on one computer plus unlimited sites. Payment recurs every period for which subscription service you have paid for.

WebDOMinator also offers a free 14 day trial.

Swom Bot and WebDOMinator are currently the only two friend adders that I am aware of that will automate adding contacts to your Swom account.  There are many more contact adders for a variety of social networks.  So if you do a lot of social network marketing you may want to investigate for yourself what some of these other options may be.

Lastly, just a brief note if you use an automatic friend adder for any social network there is always a chance that you just might irritate the administrator of the site and he will delete/ban your account or and/or block your I.P. address.  Just going from previous knowledge of other websites these bots can and do wreak havoc on servers and can cause a great deal of frustration and anger for the admin.

This is a quote from the Swom Admin:

“Swom Admin: ‘Please be advised that the use of automated software is strictly prohibited on SWOM, particularly softwares which make automatic posts in an effort to earn community points. This is not fair to other members to spend time participating. Please make sure you do not use any such software/program on Swom and delete any reference to them on your Swom profile. Attempting to ‘cheat’ the system on Swom is a sure way of getting your account deleted, and you will forfeit all your commissions.”

In the end, as always you will need to find the most appropriate method that you feel comfortable with and run with it!  Have fun adding friends on Swom!!
